About Us

Brew Cents was created to serve as a guide to help anyone improve the quality of coffee they brew and make better buying decisions.

For us (and many of you), coffee is a part of each and every day, so we want to make the experience enjoyable and something we really look forward to on a daily basis. However, finding the right beans, brewing method, and equipment can be intimidating with so many different products and misleading sources of information.

But we don’t believe we should have to settle. If we cook a meal we don’t love, we don’t just accept it and make it again the exact same way the next time, so we shouldn’t treat brewing coffee any differently! That’s where Brew Cents comes in.

Our passion for coffee has driven us to create Brew Cents as a resource for YOU on all things coffee. We continue to learn about, research, and test products and brewing techniques in order to share them with our readers and save them both time and money (brewing isn’t cheap!). Whether you’re just starting out or have been brewing coffee for a long time, our goal is to give you Our Brew Cents on all things coffee to help you make better buying decisions and brew amazing coffee that even a professional barista would be proud of.

Our Team

Brad Kaley

I’m an environmental engineer specializing in water treatment. Although I didn’t realize it for years, there is a lot of chemistry in coffee which really piqued my interest.

I began trying coffee in new cities across the world when traveling for work. Back home I started experimenting with different brewing styles and enjoyed serving up different drinks to friends and family.

That’s when I knew I had developed a passion for coffee and brewing.  I enjoy the technical aspects of brewing just as much as actually drinking the end product. I continue to try to learn as much as I can and share it whenever possible.

Outside of coffee and my career, I enjoy traveling, hiking with my black lab Finn, and obstacle course racing!

Rafey Munir

When I started working on Brew Cents, I didn’t know I was working on Brew Cents. I was spending a lot of time researching coffee beans, brewing methods, and equipment, and was documenting what I found for my personal use. After becoming the “knowledge expert” for friends with questions about coffee, I realized there might be a wider audience interested in learning as well.

The thing I enjoy most about working on Brew Cents is that talking about coffee is a great way to meet interesting people. My full-time job is in disaster response, which takes me all around the country. Although that doesn’t seem like it has anything to do with coffee, everyone is addicted to coffee, and it’s a great way to start a conversation.

In my spare time, I like to explore and cook.  I’m a big fan of chai as well as coffee, and I believe I have the world’s best masala chai recipe. 🙂
